Leroy the dog
My boyfriend had never had a dog while growing up. Me being a dog lover, didn't need much convincing to agree on getting one. Our dog Leroy is a pure yellow lab. We rescued him from the animal shelter when he was nearly two years old. He was a runner. He ended up in the shelter twice from running away from his home, for reasons we still wonder about. He had only been in the shelter for one day his second time, when we just so happened to take a chance and look at the selection of dogs. We could barely hear ourselves think over the noise of the barking dogs as we walked past the kennels. I had given up hope as we started walking past the last row of kennels. Leroy (formally known as Woody) was sitting in his kennel, sharing it with an obnoxious brown dog. He was the only dog not barking, I had a good feeling about this one. When we took him out to play, he didn't jump on us or try to lick us. I was instantly reassured that he was the one. To this day, a year and a half later, I am constantly reminded of how lucky and blessed we were to be able to give Leroy a safe and loving home to live in. He has changed our lives forever.
